East Lyme mistaken if it builds police station minus cells
This responds to the newly purchased Honeywell building for the newly established East Lyme Police Department. The article about this project emphasized that depending on the cost, officials are not sure whether adding cells and a sally port would be included in the overhaul of the building.
This is just wrong. Does Ford make police cruisers without radios and flashing lights, etc.? No! This new building should have at least one hard cell and one soft cell (to be used for juveniles and women). Officers need to take individuals to the Waterford Police Department at the tune of $40,000 a year.
Under the old Resident Trooper program all individuals were taken to Troop E Montville for free. Troop E has four cells and it's not unusual for all to be utilized frequently. Why burden Waterford Police Department and pay this amount of money?
For East Lyme officers to do their job, they need a self-contained police department. They deserve it. Please do the job right the first time (and it wouldn't hurt to throw in the coffee maker).
