Conflicting plastic bag rules are no great burden

The front page story, "Westerly's new plastic bag ban differs from surrounding towns'," (Jan. 19), detailed the confusion endured by some residents of southeast Connecticut and bordering Rhode Island with the inconsistencies of state and local laws regarding single-use plastic bags. In the words of dilettante Chatsworth Osbourne Jr. in the 1960s sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” – “Surely you jest!” Assuming that residents will continue to bear no tax burden or fines for bringing a reusable bag while shopping in areas that do not ban single-use; always bring a reusable bag with you to a store. It isn’t a big deal!
