Beavers have benefits, so deceive, don't destroy them

A consequence of a healthy beaver population is dammed waterways. Of course, the problem arises when they flood what we call "our domain."

However, they are a huge environmental benefit to all of us. They are labeled "eco-engineers," genetically programmed to slow moving water. They allow water to seep into our water table and allow natural filtration of sediments to occur, creating quiet places for all wildlife to live and breed. But they can be a pain.

There is a solution. A "Beaver Deceiver."

They cost about $1,500 and consist of a long pipe behind the dam with a big cage around it. The beavers do not sense they are losing water through the pipe and continue their genetically programmed dam building. Most dams only last 10-15 years.

This can be a win-win for all (including our environment) and certainly worth trying before killing them and upsetting the biological balance of life.
