Unify for change, set aside political attacks

Regarding Rev. David Good’s column, “Hearing first breaths of an America reborn,” (June 10), I think we have reached the time, “When those who are not injured are as indignant as those that are.” We were repulsed by the killing of George Floyd, and so were the majority of police, and so was our president, who does not speak the language of slick politicians.

When Rev. Good included political comments, it took away from his message. Most of the media amplifies the president’s missteps, misquotes him at every turn, and ignores his accomplishments and his efforts to better the Black communities, i.e. more jobs than ever (pre-pandemic), Ben Carson’s appointment to HUD, criminal justice reform, urging Congress to pass school choice legislation. He has the support of many Black leaders, but you do not hear about that.

Violence in the Black neighborhoods does not serve the cause. It takes away jobs, businesses, homes, local places to shop and get care, even destroying COVID-19 testing sites. There are other forces at work, not for the good of the Black communities, but to destroy society.

Looking at the peaceful demonstrations, you can see all races and ages joining in. As Christians, we have to stop fueling the antagonism and resentment, including constant political attacks, and use the momentum as a force for good.
