Anyone who knows history knows dropping atomic bombs justified

I am responding to an opinion article in The Day on Monday, Aug. 10, by Olivia Alperstein, Institute for Policy Studies, "It's past time for U.S. to apologize for nuclear attacks."

I expect the author was not born at the time of the attack. It's obvious she has not read the history of WW II in the Pacific. The Japanese have never apologized for the millions of people they murdered in several numbers of atrocities. Instead, they built a memorial for the "war heroes" who inspired and led the atrocities. I lived in Asia for a number of years and talked with people who survived the atrocities.

The cost of American lives was estimated at 1 to 2 million if we invaded Japan. The number of Japanese lives would have been millions more than the 200,000 lives lost in atomic bomb attacks.

Do not publish opinions from authors who do not know the full-length history of the subject they are writing about. You insult the intelligence of your readers. Further, I lose confidence in your newspaper for such choices. I was alive when the bombs were dropped 75 years ago and had relatives in the service whose lives were saved because we did not try to invade Japan.

I can forgive a lot, but not stupidity. The choice of selecting this opinion was simply stupid.
