Bring back earmarks and the dealmakers who brought home the bacon

In a misplaced desire for ethical purity, Congress outlawed earmarks. They forgot that horse trading was a necessary part of reaching compromise.

People always differ. People always think their motivations and positions are superior to their adversaries. Deals are needed.

Earmarks provided lawmakers partial wins, which allowed agreements that moved an agenda or legislation forward.

It's a pity that legislators do not defend deals. Admired legislators of the past were always skilled dealmakers. Without earmarks, oposition must simply capitulate (and, of course, they won't) so compromise becomes impossible.

Deals are not bribery. They are necessary for compromise and compromise is necessary for a democracy to function.

Immoveable purity is for the religious sphere and not recommended for getting legislation passed. Do not scorn dealmakers, elect them.
