Voting the person, not the party

Often, it seems as if Republicans and Democrats have nothing in common but disdain for one another. Voters expect the usual disagreements between the parties that highlight differing philosophies, but this political season the differences seem rooted in emotions rather than agendas and policies.

Many of the issues being debated in Hartford impact the jobs and economy in eastern Connecticut. I appreciate that our representatives and senators work together to protect the economic growth in our region. These Connecticut politicians may have different opinions on core political issues, but they work together and speak with one voice concerning our area.

When it comes to job security, current legislators from eastern Connecticut represent us well in Hartford.

I want to particularly thank Senators Cathy Osten, Paul Formica and Heather Somers, and Reps. Mike France, Christine Conley, and Holly Cheeseman. As a Ledyard voter, I am going to vote not on party lines but on previous performance and vote for Senator Osten and Rep. France.

    Brian Charette
