City of Groton should not choose new mayor with less experience

Aundré Bumgardner wants to be mayor in the City of Groton. Just because he can does not mean he should.

Why should we trust an inexperienced young man? I have not read nor heard anything that qualifies him for the job.

The mayor ensures our government − funded by the taxpayers − runs without interruption. Does he know how a multimillion-dollar budget is put together? Does Aundré understand the complicated rules and regulations governing Groton Utilities? We provide electricity and water at rates at or below those of communities surrounding us. It is a complex and complicated entity.

It is my belief "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it." This is not a-learn-as-you-go position. Mayor Hedrick has been doing a fine job. Voters: do you want to turn the keys over to someone who has not shown you he knows how to drive?

City Democrats need to vote in this primary. Do not be complacent. Aundré Bumgardner has not shown he has the experience needed to do the City of Groton mayoral job. I do not care if you are 18 or 80: if you do not have the experience of the person you want to replace, you do not meet the requirements for the job.

    John Duarte
