Mixed-use approach could save Crystal Mall

Your editorial covered some good points regarding the reasons behind the decline and the repurpose of the Crystal Mall, “Finding a future for Waterford’s Crystal Mall,” (Feb. 25). Even though many malls have not been successful in their repurpose, many have survived. I do not believe you completed enough research across the United States and other countries. I have seen many on TV come back well. I do not believe the mall should fully go towards all offices. The bottom floor at least should remain as retail. To name a few stores that seem to be surviving are Christmas Tree Shops, Dollar Stores, some beauty and nail salons, Buffalo Wild Wings, Pretzel Store, Old Navy, and the food court. By adding entertainment, a play center for families like a Chuck E. Cheese and a trampoline or bowling places, you will definitely increase traffic. Officials of Waterford please consider carefully your plan for the repurchase of Crystal Mall. Many families are counting on you. Families out there please write letters to The Day and express helpful suggestions.
