Mostly images of whites grace Day's slick magazine publications

Another edition of Sound & Country, another edition representing no Black people. Same with Aspire and some of the other magazines published by The Day.

While these magazines on rare occasions might mix it up with stories and photos, and even devote an edition to non-whites, these publications predominantly fail in their inclusivity.

When readers browse through a magazine and rarely see anyone with whom they can identify, you have lost them. There is no connection. No little girls who could be their granddaughter, no adults who could be their brother.

The remedy is simple: Be inclusive. Be mindful.

Editor’s note: The Day formed a Diversity Committee in 2020 and is taking steps to be more inclusive in our coverage.
