Kudos to Paul Choiniere for his years − is it really 33? − at the Day. His influence as the editorial page editor has ensured balance and fairness, qualities that have marked his career at the newspaper. When I first moved to the area, he invited me to lunch and encouraged me to send letters and opinion pieces to him, not promising that they would be published but assuring me that they would be respectfully read and given consideration. Over the past 20 years he has kept that promise. His integrity and practice of good journalism have been a blessing both to the newspaper and to the larger community.
