    Jan 6. investigation isn’t a trial

In response to the letter by Nicholas Casiano, “Leave it to the DOJ,” (July 19): it sounds like you may be confused regarding the role of the congressional January 6 committee. First of all, there is no trial taking place. The purpose is to acquire information to make sure the issues being investigated do not happen again. This group is similar to the Watergate committee that investigated the role Richard Nixon played. The results led to his resignation.

If this committee aids the DOJ by uncovering evidence of crimes committed, so be it. I am sure if there was a committee investigating a similar situation of a Democrat, you would be very happy to see the evidence being uncovered. Your last statement, “These hearings are political theater and have no interest in justice” is laughable. You, sir, could not be more mistaken. These hearings are for the purpose of making sure justice is done. I do not care who anyone supports politically, but everyone should support getting to the bottom of this travesty when our entire democracy was almost destroyed.
