I am writing in response to the Day’s article, “Nips bringing big money to local towns,” (Oct. 27). I find the idea inane that by giving money to towns selling these plastic bottles makes it seemingly OK to pollute the environment. I spend a great deal of time in the woods and walking along our roadways and often pick up 25 or 30 of these plastic bottles at a time. Sadly, upon returning just several days later, I could easily find another 10 to 15 discarded haphazardly. There is no doubt that these tiny plastic bottles are contributing to the decimation of our environment. Plastics of all sorts are showing up in the foods we eat, the soils we grow said foods in, and our oceans and waterways.

How much saner and healthier would it be to not sell them at all (I believe Groton has considered bans on them) instead of proclaiming their greatness due to our towns making money?
