Abe Lincoln’s advice to Supreme Court
“Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well-wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others.” Trump publicly disqualified himself from eligibility to become president again by refusing the peaceful transfer of power after the last election, staging a failed coup and inviting a violent insurrection. Now, he needs the Supreme Court to turn a blind eye and join the parade of Trump enablers.
During the oral arguments last week, the justices stayed away from the substance of the charges of insurrection. Their duty is to enforce the constitution, not to avoid it based on hypotheticals. Would discouraging future candidates from lying and rioting when they lose an election, in an attempt to cling to power, be so problematic for America? The Colorado ruling shows that the constitution is clear. Insurrectionists cannot be president. Trump is an insurrectionist. If he avoids jail, he can find another job.
