Bring back the red, white and blue flags at Shennecossett
I apologize if you are reading this letter and thought it was going to be something about politics. This writing is about the red, white and blue flags that are no longer flying on the pins at Shennecossett Golf Course.
The flags used to let the experienced and not-so-experienced golfer know that the distance from the fairway or tee was either front (red), middle (white) or back (blue). This was very helpful in choosing your club regarding distance. This year the pin flags were changed to all red, making it difficult to tell where the position of the hole actually is. The reason for the change, according to the golf superintendent, is that it gives the course a classic look and Shennecossett is a classic course. I have talked to many golfers (members and out-of-town players) and almost all of them wonder why the change occurred and that they preferred the old red, white and blue. I started a petition and have over 100 signatures. I am asking the Town of Groton Parks and Recreation Department to listen to the majority of golfers and change the flags back to red, white and blue.
Please let Mark Berry, Recreation Director, know how you feel about the current flags.
