Not a cause and effect correlation

The Day Opinion page July 25 article by Chris Powell, “Block housing development and your taxes may go up,“ suggested that the correlation between high house prices and high taxes implied cause and effect. For those in the know, two takeaways from Economics 101 are one: prices of houses, autos, food and taxes all will go up over time; and two: if all houses dropped in value by 50 percent, taxes would not go down, because the streets still have to be paved and the government workers paid.
