Signs of the times
A sign on the highway says that the speed limit is 55 mph maximum, and 40 mph is the minimum. Another nearby sign warns slower traffic to stay in the right hand lane. Does that mean if I am going between 40 and 54 mph, I should keep in the right hand lane and the left hand lane is reserved for cars going 55 mph? I’m sure it doesn’t mean if you are in the left lane going over 55 mph, you are speeding, which of course, is against the law. Then why, with patrol cars parked along the highway, are there always cars passing me when I am going 55 mph, no matter which lane I am in? I feel like it's me that’s going to get a ticket! I can only assume that since the police are present, the left lane is reserved for those going over 70 mph, while the right hand lane is for anything under. If these signs are merely meant to be suggestions, then they should say so.
