Calls to 911 take too long
A co-worker recently dialed 911 when she found a van flipped over on the exit ramp from 95 North to Vauxhall Street Extension. One dispatcher picked up and then transferred her to another dispatcher, who then transferred her to the state police due to confusion over the location and subsequent jurisdiction. Meanwhile, someone in the van may have been injured, or worse, dying. This is ridiculous.
Any dispatcher should be allowed to call an ambulance to the site of an accident. I experienced this problem recently myself over a downed tree across the road right near a town line. I thought 911 was supposed to simplify the emergency process. I guess that’s just not possible.
