Cut off support for gun lobbyists
As the new year approaches, I reached out to Congressman Joe Courtney’s office to propose a law that would stop any politician or their staff from accepting one penny from any gun lobbyists. This idea addresses a serious issue: the influence that gun lobbyists have on political decisions. By cutting off financial support from these lobbyists, we can reduce conflicts of interest and push for laws that put public safety first.
This change will lead to greater transparency in political funding, forcing politicians to focus more on their constituents than them. To make this happen, draft solid legislation, and rally support from advocacy groups and the community. That means all of you. Raising awareness on social media and in public forums will be paramount as it will help build public support. Once the law is established, monitoring contributions will ensure compliance, creating a more open political environment and potentially leading to stronger gun control measures where parents and children don’t have to worry about their kids’ safety at school.
