Connecticut legislature needs to meet the moment
I would urge the state legislature to immediately call a special session for the purpose of considering laws to protect our Connecticut way of life. President-elect Donald Trump must be taken at his word that he and Congress will execute his campaign promises.
As an example, legislators must consider if Connecticut will allow our law enforcement to support mass deportation schemes or be required to enforce federal mandates on abortion measures ranging from a ban on mifepristone to so-called “abortion tourism” laws. The legislature even needs to immediately address such formerly outlandish things as a potential federal ban on fluoridating water. I regret that there is no time for a new legislature to get “up to speed” in January. It is beyond urgent that the legislature aggressively debates right now what our future will look like on Jan. 20, and along with Gov. Ned Lamont enact laws preserving Connecticut.
I know it is not a normal course of action for a body normally used to deliberation and process, but we are facing historic significance, and I implore the legislature to meet the moment.
