East Lyme — The 4th Annual Niantic Jingle Bell 5K Run and Walk, named one of the top road races in Connecticut, will take place on Dec. 9 starting at 10 a.m. at McCook’s Point Park in Niantic. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

Online registration will be available until Dec. 8 at http://itsyourrace.com.

Event organizers encourage people of all fitness levels to participate, and costumes are welcome, according to an event notice. Awards will be given for the top three males/females overall and top male/female in all age categories and best costumes.

"Proceeds from the race go to support the Brian Dagle Foundation’s mission to promote hope and healing for people grieving the loss of someone special by providing free support services, education and resources in Southeastern Connecticut and to assist them on the long road of healing after the loss," the notice states. "In addition to grief support the Foundation strives to educate the community and schools on suicide prevention and promote awareness of suicide risk factors and warning signs."
