    SEAT announces schedule of public hearings

    The Southeast Area Transit district has announced a schedule of public hearings to receive comments on proposed service reductions, as the transit district faces a potential 15 percent cut in state aid for next fiscal year. The meetings will be held as follows:

    • 6 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Norwich City Hall, Room 335 (100 Broadway St., Norwich)

    • 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Groton Senior Center (102 Newtown Road, Groton)

    • 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Griswold Senior Center (22 Soule St., Jewett City)

    • 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at New London City Hall (181 State St., New London)

    • 6 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Stonington High School (176 South Broad St., Pawcatuck)

    The list of proposed changes are as follows: the elimination of night service and Sunday service; the elimination of Run 10 in Stonington; the elimination of Run 109 (St. Bernard bus; SEAT plans to start New London service earlier and change Runs 1/101 alignment to serve St. Bernard's); the elimination of Run 121 (Three Rivers Express; SEAT plans to start New London service earlier and change Runs 1/101 alignment to serve Three Rivers); the elimination of the Saturday Run 101 morning bus; and the elimination of Run 108 (Foxwoods) service between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    SEAT further is proposing to shorten Saturday service to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; reduce frequency on Saturdays for Runs 8/9, 4/5 or 6, and 12/14 to every 120 minutes; increase from the current $50 the 31-day pass fee to $60 or $68; and decrease the five-day pass fee from the current $20 to $16.
