Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council seeks advisory panel applicants

Applicants interested in serving on the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council's advisory panels have until Friday to apply. The panels provide information and recommendations to the council during the development of fishery management plans, amendments, specifications, and management measures, and help develop the annual Fishery Performance Reports that provide the council with information about fishing and catch results each year.

Members of the panels include commercial fishermen, recreational anglers, for-hire operators, dealers, scientists, environmentalists, and other members of the public. Most advisory panels meet one or two times a year, and members are compensated for travel and per diem expenses.

The council is accepting applications for the following advisory panels:
• Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass
• Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish
• Surfclam and Ocean Quahog
• Tilefish
• Bluefish
• Ecosystem and Ocean Planning
• River Herring and Shad
• Dogfish

Those interested in applying to serve a three-year term on one of the panels can apply online at mafmc.org or get an application by calling the Council office at (877) 446-2362. Completed applications are due Friday, April 20. For more information, contact Mary Sabo at (302) 518-1143,
