Meeting to be held in Windham Tuesday to discuss state plan to revoke Path Academy's state charter

Windham – State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna Wentzell and other officials will hold a meeting Tuesday for the students, parents and guardians of Path Academy in Windham to discuss the potential revocation of the charter school’s operator’s license.

The meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Path Academy, 832-842 Main St., Willimantic for parents and students to hear information and to ask questions about a state Board of Education special meeting planned for Wednesday to discuss and act upon a motion to revoke Path Academy’s charter.

If the board approves the motion, a revocation of Path Academy’s charter would not take effect until the end of the current school year. Personalized placement supports will be provided for each student to identify the best options for completing high school, state Department of Education spokesman Peter Yazbak said.

According to a letter sent by Wentzell to parents, the academy was placed on probation Jan. 8, 2018 and based on information received in a review of the school, the state Department of Education will be recommending that the charter be revoked.

No further details were provided Monday. Students from New London and Norwich attend the Path Academy.
