Memorial Day parades to bring road closures to Mystic, Noank, Ledyard

Several road closures and traffic congestion alerts will be in effect Monday in Noank and downtown Mystic, and Sunday in Ledyard, due to Memorial Day parades.

Moderate traffic conditions in and around the Noank and downtown Mystic sections, before, during and after the parade are anticipated, according to the Groton Town Police Department.

The Mystic road closures will occur at 2 p.m. Monday and will remain in effect until approximately 30 minutes after the parade has ended. The closures are on West Main Street between the drawbridge and High Street; on Water Street between West Main Street and New London Road; on Pearl Street between West Main Street and Cliff Street; and on Gravel Street between West Main Street and Cliff Street.

Noank road closures will occur about 10 a.m. Monday and also will remain in effect until shortly after the parade there has ended. Noank closures include Elm Street, between Brook Street and Prospect Hill Road, and the Village area, including Mosher Avenue, Ward Avenue, Main Street, Pearl Street, High Street and Sylvan Street.

Ledyard's Memorial Day Parade at 1 p.m. on Sunday will cause about a 20-minute closure of Route 117 between Ledyard Center and Bill Library, police said Thursday. The parade will travel on Colonel Ledyard Highway and end at the high school. Colonel Ledyard Highway will close for the duration of the parade. Police said motorists and residents on Colonel Ledyard Highway, Wolf Ridge Gap, Fairway Drive, Colby Drive, Center Drive, Blonder Boulevard and Gallup Hill Road should expect minor delays and use caution. Ledyard police will be on scene managing traffic for the event, which is expected to last about 45 minutes.
