Mother’s Day often makes me a little sad, because my bio daughter, Darcy, and my steps live far away. So, when my friend Lisa called and asked what I was doing for Mother’s Day, she asked me to come to their place in Madison and go out for lunch. I suggested we go for an early lunch at Clam Castle, and inaugurated the date with the first lobster rolls of the season.

As it turned out, none of us got a lobster roll: Dash had a cheeseburger, Eric had a lobster grilled cheese sandwich, Lisa had fish tacos and I had belly clams. We all shared fries and calamari. I wolfed down my bellies, hot and gushy and briny. And no one wanted any. Or maybe I didn’t ask. Oh, were they beyond delicious.
