Stonington -- The recent good news for the revitalization of downtown Pawcatuck continues as a dental firm is seeking to open in the vacant Citizens Bank building at 46 W. Broad St.

Heartland Dental of Effingham, Ill., is seeking a zoning permit to change the use of the building and to enclose the canopy in the drive-through lane. The Planning and Zoning Commission is slated to consider the permit application at its meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.

Heartland Dental bills itself as the largest dental support organization in the United States with more than 850 supported dental offices in 35 states. 

The application follows good news for other vacant buildings.

This spring, Best Energy owner Jim Lathrop acquired the long vacant building at 2-4 Mechanic St. and has been renovating it. Earlier this month, Stonington Realty said it would be moving into the building along with a mortgage company when the work is complete.

Also this month, two Westerly brothers who work at acclaimed Tony D’s restaurant in New London, said they will open a new Italian-American restaurant in the closed West Broad Street Bistro building at 59 W. Broad St.
