You know how folks, in attempting to explain a recurrence of phenomena or events, will say, "It must be something in the water"?

Well, as it applies to musical forms indigenous to Jamaica, methinks it's something in the flora. As in, ganja. That certainly helps explain the jubilant rhythms and lulling, wave-processional melodies associated with reggae and/or ska.

Celebrate locally on Friday when New London's Hygienic Art Park hosts Ska Prom 2018. Local heroes Llama Tsunami headline, and the bill includes fellow Nutmeggers So Long Liberty along with, from Denton, Tex., The Holophonics.

Sounds fun – but up the ante by working the prom theme. Feel free to don formal wear and take advantage of the Prom Night photo booth on-site. Adult beverages will be available for purchase, and chef Brian Brother will have his calorically seductive Snak Dragon taco/burrito cart on-site.
