Thames River Heritage Park water taxi offers rides during Sailfest

The Thames River Heritage Park water taxi plans to offer one-hour tours of the Thames River during Sailfest weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

The tours cost $20 per person and $10 for children 12 and under. They will run hourly from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15. The two tour options will leave from the north end of New London City Pier on the hour.

One trip will take passengers down the Thames River toward the Long Island Sound, circle New London Ledge Light and pass New London Harbor Light before passing Fort Trumbull and returning to City Pier. Another option will go upriver under the Gold Star and Thames River Train bridges, pass by the Coast Guard Academy and the USS Nautilus before returning back to City Pier.

A boat also will take passengers to New London Ledge Light from the Fort Trumbull dock for a $35 view of the fireworks display scheduled for Saturday night.
