New London committee to study trash options
New London — The City Council on Monday approved the formation of an eight-member Solid Waste Management Task Force.
The committee will explore ways to increase recycling, reduce the volume of solid waste, garner public support and look at possible alternatives to a pay-as-you-throw program now under consideration by the city. The group ultimately will make a recommendation to the City Council.
Committee members include Neighborhood Alliance member John Maney, City Center District member Kip Bochain Jr., Julie Cammarata, Maureen Connaughton, Bryan Doughty and City Councilors Martin Olsen and Don Venditto. The council also will ask school administration to appoint a high school student from New London.
The council named Doughty chairman of the committee. The group is expected to start meeting early next month.
