The Waterford Regional Lions Club installed new officers and members at a recent meeting at Smarty’s Pub in Niantic.

Sheri Ann Colquhoun was named to her second term as president at the meeting, installed by Bill Allen and George Salpietro, past district governors, and Cabinet Chairman George Finlayson. Sandra Welles is the immediate past president.

Other officers installed were Peter Bendfeldt, first vice president; Joan Bendfeldt, second vice president; Mary Ann Peter, third vice president; Joyce Clapsadle, secretary, and Paula Lorello, treasurer.

Wendy DeBarrows was named tail twister, Barbara Kiely was named lion tamer, Joyce Clark and Marion Frink were named to head membership, and Arlene Jones was named to head sunshine. Joel Zuckerbraun, Judy Dousis and Cindy Forget were named to the Board of Directors. Dousis also received the Lion of the Year award, as voted by members.

Mike Snurkowski, Jillian Murray and Lucas Murray were inducted as new members by Nanette Burdick, past district governor, and the induction of the Murrays represents four generations of the same family in the club. Colquhoun and her mother, Joan Bendfeldt, were original charter members of the club with Judy Dousis in 1980. Jillian Murray is Colquhoun’s daughter, and Lucas Murray is her grandson.

Colquhoun, DeBarrows and Welles represent the club at the District 23C Cabinet. Colquhoun serves on the diabetes committee in honor of her brother, who was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. DeBarrows and Welles serve as service dog representatives; DeBarrows is blind and uses a guide dog.
