United Community and Family Services receives grant to fight opioid addition

Norwich — United Community and Family Services will receive a federal grant of $289,250 to combat the opioid crisis, according to an announcement of funding for community health centers across the state.

The funding was part of nearly $31 million announced Friday by the state’s congressional delegation that includes $22 million over two years to the state from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and $3.6 million to the state Department of Public Health from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

UCFS was one of 16 community health centers across the state — the only one in southeastern Connecticut — to receive a portion of $4.8 million in grants announced Friday “to expand access to integrated substance use disorder and mental health services,” the news release announcing the grants stated.
