    Back to the ocean

Volunteers snap photos of "Bear" one of six harbor seals being released by staff and volunteers from the Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue program along with Marine Mammals of Maine release Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island. The six seals were all rescued this summer in Maine during an as-yet-unexplained Unusual Mortality Event (UME) in the Gulf of Maine. Two of the seals were nursed back to health at MMoME and four in Mystic. One of the MMoE rehabilitated seals will carry a satellite tracking device from the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society of New York to conduct population monitoring and gather post-release behavior and travel patterns.
