Let's Go: Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra
The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 72nd season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Garde Arts Center in New London with an evening of rhapsodic music. The concert features piano soloist Svetlana Smolina making her ECSO debut playing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.”
The concert also will include George Enescu’s “Romanian Rhapsody No. 1,” a lush work full of dance rhythms and drinking songs; Christopher Rouse’s “Rapture” of ever-changing tempo and dynamics, and Maurice Ravel’s “Rapsodie espagnol,” a symphonic showcase of orchestration.
