Bond commission set to approve funds for State Pier in New London, other projects

The State Bond Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday and approve funds for a host of projects in the region that include grants-in-aid for infrastructure repairs and improvements to the State Pier in New London.

“The funds that have been requested will offer economic and community development for our shore,” state Rep. Christine Conley said in a statement.

Conley represents the 40th District which includes Groton and Ledyard.

The bond commission agenda shows $5.5 million in funding earmarked for the Connecticut Port Authority for continued work at State Pier. The Ledyard Police Department is slated to receive $83,155 in reimbursement for the purchase of body-worn cameras and video storage devices.

The bond commission is also expected to allocate $825,000 to finance the remediation, marketing, and planning activities at selected state-owned properties that could include the Mystic Oral School in Groton and Norwich Hospital property in Preston.

“With the release of funds for marketing and planning of the Mystic Oral School the town may reuse and redevelop the property in a way that allows our community to grow,” Conley said. “With body cameras for Ledyard police officers, we can offer a feeling of safety for all residents. I have urged the State Bond Commission to see the value these funds hold for our community and expect a vote in our favor.”

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is a $2.2 million to the Department of Emergency Management and Public Protection for an additional radio tower serving the East Lyme and Waterford area to “enhance coverage and to replace various microwave components that have reached their end of life.”

The Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library is slated to receive $1 million toward a $2.7 million renovation and improvement project there. Voters earlier this year approved spending $1.75 million on the renovations.
