Piver scholarship fundraiser slated for June 23

Stonington — The annual fundraiser for the Josh Piver Scholarship will be held Sunday, June 23, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society in the Borough.

This year’s event will feature a pig and oyster roast and there will be music by the Cartells from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be both a silent and live auction and the recipients of this year’s scholarship will be on hand. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and include food and one drink ticket. Children 12 and under are free.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time by visiting bit.ly/Piver2019. Anyone with questions can contact Erika Piver at pivere@yahoo.com.

Piver, a Stonington High School graduate and soccer player, was 23 when he was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, where he worked on the 105th floor for Cantor Fitzgerald.

A scholarship is awarded each year to a Stonington High School senior “who best practices Josh’s values of character and community involvement.”
