    Casting off in New London

Anthony Como, 13, of East Lyme casts a line during The Fishing Academy's summer camp Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Fort Trumbull in New London. The nonprofit, which started in Massachusetts about 15 years ago, has been working for the past two years in Connecticut to introduce kids to the sport of fishing. This week at the local camp, which is free, kids spent time fishing in Norwich, New London, Baltic and on fishing boats out of Niantic. "This is about teaching more than just fishing," Executive Director John Hoffman said, "it's about learning life skills. That's the ultimate endgame of the program."
