Preston Scarecrow Festival hosting scarecrow building workshops

Preston — The 14th annual Scarecrow Festival is just around the calendar, and for the second year, the festival committee will host two scarecrow building workshops to encourage people to enter the free contest.

The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Preston City Congregational Church. Admission is free and contest entry is free.

At each scarecrow workshop, a frame and supplies will be provided at no charge and scarecrow builders are asked to bring their own decorating supplies.

The first workshop will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Preston Ridge Vineyard, 100 Miller Road. Registration is requested by Sept. 1 for the workshop. Preston Ridge Vineyard will have wine for sale, and Jimmies Ice Cream Shoppe will offer food for sale.

The second session will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Hart’s Greenhouse & Garden Center, 99 Route 2A, Preston. Registration is requested by Saturday, Sept. 7, for the session.

Along with the scarecrow building session, Hart’s will offer a patio planting workshop at 2 p.m. for $35 per person.
