Alena Tocker of Groton recently wrote to the Times with a special request: a regular playdate for her golden retriever, Oscar.

“He desperately needs a new friend,” she wrote, noting that Oscar’s best friend, Jake, recently died of cancer. “Due to my age, it would be irresponsible to adopt another dog, so I came up with the idea of a free daycare for an older, socialized male dog.”

Tocker put a listing in The Day, advertising her free service for a very special dog to hang out with Oscar during the day in her fenced yard and house, but to date she has not received any calls.

“If someone would like to take me up on my offer, it would make two dogs very happy,” she said. “Needless to say, me too.”
