Connecticut College receives $10 million for Academic Resource Center

New London — Connecticut College on Thursday announced that it has received a $10 million gift from anonymous donors to expand its Academic Resource Center, which provides academic support services for students in the form of tutoring, workshops and other resources.

The total investment will be $15 million, the college said in a news release, between a gift of $5 million, a $5 million challenge grant, and a matching component of the grant.

"With this gift, the ARC will provide an even broader range of programming designed for students who want to excel in their lives on campus and in the wider world," President Katherine Bergeron said.

The funding will endow two new programs centered on communication and on critical and collaborative thinking, and it will enhance the program in quantitative reasoning. It also will expand the program's presence in the college's library.

ARC Director Noel Garrett noted in the release that quantitative skills are especially essential as interest in STEM has grown and said the gift will allow the ARC to expand its popular quantitative literacy program.

The ARC opened in 2013 with an $11 million gift from anonymous donors.
