Families waiting on the tarmac at the Connecticut Air National Guard's headquarters in East Granby were treated to a flyby Thursday afternoon from the two C-130 aircraft bringing their loved ones home from a four-month deployment in Kuwait.

Nearly 130 members of the unit, along with their C-130 aircraft, deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve.

The mission of Operation Spartan Shield is to partner capacity in the Middle East to promote regional self-reliance and increase security, while Operation Inherent Resolve's mission is to defeat the Islamic State terrorist group in designated areas of Iraq and Syria.

Nearly 60 members of the unit returned Thursday following the return of another 69 on Tuesday.
