Norwich Winterfest parade will run through downtown Saturday

Norwich — The 2019 Winterfest parade, with the theme “Candy Land,” will step off at 1 p.m. Saturday and traverse through downtown Norwich with local music, entertainers, marching bands and decorative floats.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories for the best floats.

The parade will begin on Main Street near Otis Library, turn right onto Franklin Street, left onto Willow Street, left onto Chestnut Street, left onto Broadway and a right back onto Main Street, approximately a half-mile loop.

Hall Communications will announce the parade near the Norwich Superior Courthouse, where groups will perform for judges.

This year, the Parade Committee has selected Matthew DuTrumble, owner of Craftsman Cliff Roasters, as its grand marshal. Matthew grew up in Norwich and is a 1995 graduate of the Norwich Free Academy. After graduation DuTrumble attended Johnson and Wales University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business and accounting as well as an associate degree in culinary science.

After graduation, he became the kitchen supervisor and an instructor at the Harker School in San Jose, Calif., and became a chef instructor at the California Culinary Academy. In 2009, DuTrumble became executive chef at Zynga, a social video game developer.

DuTrumble opened Craftsman Cliff’s in 2016 and has been featured on the Food Network and has consulted on several tech startup culinary programs.

The Winterfest Parade is organized and funded by Norwich Events Organization through donations from local business and individual sponsors. To become a sponsor, visit gonorwichct.org.

Also this holiday season, Norwich Events Organization, in conjunction with the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring a Holiday Window Decorating Contest in downtown Norwich. The winners will be announced at Light Up City Hall, which begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
