New London police alert schools, locate suicidal man
New London — Police alerted city schools Tuesday morning to a report of a suicidal man known to police and possibly armed heading to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and eventually located him without incident.
After receiving the report about 8:45 a.m., police said they began searching the hospital property, notified hospital security and issued a “modified lockdown” directive to schools in the vicinity of the hospital. Further investigation revealed the man was possibly traveling to other parts of the city, prompting police to extend the lockdown to all district schools.
Shortly thereafter, police said, they located the man without incident and took him to the hospital for medical evaluation.
