This is part of an occasional series on local residents who have presidential lawn signs. If you have one, or spot one, email the address to cityeditor@theday.com.

Sign: Two blue and yellow “Pete 2020” standard size campaign lawn signs flank the front door at 189 Harland Road, Norwich. The house faces a busy traffic light at the junction of Harland Road-Route 169 and Ox Hill Road.

Who: Marc Campos, 29, is a physician's assistant at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, and Elissa Campos, 28, is a registered nurse at the Backus facility in Plainfield.

Why do you support the candidate?: “I think he is a new perspective,” Elissa Campos said. The couple moved to Norwich a year ago from Indiana. They lived about 1½ hours of South Bend, Ind., where Pete Buttigieg was mayor from 2012 to 2020. They met Buttigieg in New Hampshire in November and got the signs there and put them up immediately. Elissa Campos said Buttigieg has a good message as a centrist. He’s intelligent, a veteran “and knows the importance of our military.” She was excited about the results of the Iowa caucuses, where Buttigieg won by a narrow margin. “When you have a good message, and you’re likable and honest, I think you’re going to poll well,” Elissa Campos said.

Whom did you support in 2016? Hillary Clinton

Why did you put a sign up? Elissa Campos said that when she got the signs last fall, Buttigieg did not have the national name recognition of some of the other candidates. She hoped people would see the sign and look up Buttigieg and learn more about him. “I believe in spreading the word,” she said. “It raises curiosity.”

Any reaction to the sign: The sign has been noticed, Elissa Campos said. Neighbors have said: “Oh, you like Pete.” Others have told her they know where her house is, because it’s the one with the “Pete” signs.
