    National Guard aircraft to fly over L+M, Backus to honor health care workers in COVID-19 pandemic

    To honor hospital and health care workers who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Connecticut Air National Guard’s 103rd Airlift Wing will be flying C-130H aicraft over several Connecticut hospitals and health care facilities on Thursday, including Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and Backus Hospital in Norwich.

    The air salute to health care workers, called Operation American Resolve, is happening in conjunction with National Hospital Week. The aircrafts are expected to flyover L+M at 12:32 p.m. and Backus at 12:36 p.m.

    “Defending the homeland has taken a new shape, and the Connecticut National Guard is proud to serve alongside the first responders and essential personnel in the COVID-19 response efforts,” said Maj. Gen. Francis Evon, the adjutant general of the Connecticut National Guard. “This is our way of showing appreciation to the thousands of heroes at the front line battling COVID-19. We are humbled by their sacrifices.”

    Connecticut residents are encouraged to observe the flyover from the safety of their home, maintain social distancing, and avoid large gatherings.
