Mohegan District scouts attend virtual camporee

John Robert Hughes, Quaker Hill Pack 39 Cub Scout hikes in the backyard for the first Connecticut Rivers Council Virtual Camporee, held Saturday, April 25, 2020.

Cub and Boy Scouts in the Mohegan District participated in the Connecticut Rivers Council’s first ever virtual camporee on Saturday, April 25.

Volunteers from the June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation hosted a live broadcast of the flag-raising ceremony, followed by a series of virtual guest speakers. Mike Skvaria, an entomologist with Pennsylvania State University, gave a presentation on insects, and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz recognized the scouts for using their STEM program 3D printers to make masks, shields and ventilator quad splitters for medical facilities in need.

Scout families went on hikes near their homes and shared photos and videos from their treks, and they ended the night with dinners cooked over the campfire. The camporee ended Sunday morning with an all-faiths service and closing ceremony.
