Norwich moves polling place out of senior housing complex amid COVID-19 concerns
Norwich — The Registrar of Voters office announced Tuesday that one of the city’s six polling places will be changed for the Aug. 11 party primary and the Nov. 3 election due to concerns about the coronavirus.
Voting for Precinct 6 on the East Side will move from the AHEPA housing complex to the American Legion hall at 457 Laurel Hill Road-Route 12 for both the primary and the November election.
Republican Registrar Dianne Slopak said because AHEPA is a senior housing complex, election officials wanted to move voting because residents there are vulnerable to COVID-19. The move could become permanent, Slopak said, depending on anticipated redistricting with the results of the 2020 Census next year.
The city’s other polling places will remain the same for the Aug. 11 primary and the Nov. 3 election: Precinct 1 at Moriarty Environmental Sciences Elementary School, 20 Lawler Lane; Precinct 2 at the Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive; Precinct 3 at Samuel Huntington School, 80 W. Town St.; Precinct 4 at John B. Stanton School, 386 New London Turnpike and Precinct 5 at St. Mark Lutheran Church hall, 248 Broadway.
