In the weeds

Matt Zeppieri, with Groton City Parks and Recreation, uses a gas-powered trimmer to take down the tall grass growing in the wetlands known as Lake George in Washington Park Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

Zeppieri said the mower usually used on the area is out of service today so he was using the trimmer on a wider area than usual. The trimmer is typically used only on the tall grasses around the deeper waterways.

The area used to be flooded in the winter for use as a skating pond.
