Marine Sciences Building at Avery Point campus to be renamed in honor of Weicker
Gov. Ned Lamont, University of Connecticut President Thomas Katsouleas, various state legislators, and UConn employees and students are scheduled to take part in a ceremony on Thursday at 1 p.m. in which the Marine Sciences Building at UConn’s Avery Point campus will be renamed in honor of former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr.
The UConn Board of Trustees voted unanimously in September to make the name change.
As governor, Weicker advocated for oceanic research, helping to establish UConn as a national Sea Grant institution and a national Undersea Research Center. He also helped secure a $50 million grant for the Avery Point Marine Sciences building.
