East Lyme — A great egret was flapping around the saltwater marsh Wednesday along Bride Brook at Rocky Neck State Park.

Great egrets can be found in wetlands, lakes and marshes during spring migration and stay for the breeding season. They also can be found in coastal wetlands all summer, according to the Connecticut Audubon Society. In winter, they can travel as far as far south as the southern tip of Central America.
